City Council – Gramma Dot Ames
Dot (nee Dorothy Amelia) Ames was born in Danbury and grew up in Maine, coming to New London often to visit her Grandmother and recharge in Bates Woods. Dot moved to New London in 1980, started to study human services in 1985, and has since worked in many social services positions. In 2018, impacted by a cancer diagnosis and her son’s death from fentanyl poisoning, she returned to school and attained her MSW from UConn School of Social Work in 2024.
Well known in the community as music enthusiast and promoter Gramma Dot, she is running for City Council for the opportunity to nurture New London’s creative community while honoring our history, infusing our actions with a commitment to KINDNESS, as we face the challenges of housing instability, food insecurity, backroom politics, and more, to succeed as a vital part of history and a beautiful place to live and thrive.

City Council – Lucian Varela
Lucian Varela is an NLPS teacher and is the district union secretary for New London Education Association. His areas of focus at CCSU were Education Policy, Peace Studies, and Music Ed. He also spent years as a lead organizer and host of Green Drinks Hartford before moving to New London.
Lucian is a proven fighter against the flat funding of our public school system. He also believes the city should protect community gardens, maintain parks, and repair existing infrastructure. We pay enough in property taxes to get a real return on investment. Our money should not be going to privatized projects, wealthy profiteers, or corporate tax breaks. It should be coming back to us!

Board of Education – Keith Kimball
Keith is a 30-year New London resident and proud parent of a New London Public School student. He has 20 years experience as a staff accountant for large corporations and has served as treasurer of several nonprofit organizations, including The Friendship School FFO.
Keith is committed to raising the standard of communication between the district and families;
joining the board's efforts to increase resources for our schools (starting here, in New London) and leveraging my accounting experience to ensure that district resources are efficiently utilized; and working to return immersion language learning to New London’s Magnet District.
